Honor Your Dad: Reflect and Connect Now!
“When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was ignorant. I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned.” — Mark Twain
In our day, we often honor:
- Sports heroes for their athletic abilities.
- Entertainers for their talents.
- Nobel laureates for their brilliance.
- Military personnel for their patriotism and service.
- First responders for their sacrifice.
What about our DADS?
One thing is for certain! You and I are imperfect people, parented by imperfect people! As we interact even now with parents, family, spouse, children, grandchildren, and others, we relate as imperfect people. “To honor” then is to affirm a person’s worth and value apart from their imperfections. It is to separate a person’s worth and value from their behavior.
